History
Caillean grew up in Taren Ferry. Her father is a minor textile merchant and her mother a seamstress in her spare time. She had a younger sister who passed away when Caille was 14 from a fever. It completely rocked her world and left the inheritance of her family business solely in her shoulders besides. While the rest of her family focused more on practical things, she would sit and listen to every story and song that the traveling gleemen would tell and would often repeat the stories for the younger children later. Her constant wandering off, storytelling, and lack of interest in stitching were a constant disappointment to her parents and they let her know it.
A week after her fifteenth birthday there was a big spring festival that brought a few traveling gleemen, peddlers, and even fireworks. One of the travelling gleemen overheard her singing songs to the younger ones and decided to approach her. He began to teach her the flute and found her a quick study with a good voice and a memory for stories. A few months later he was on his way to Whitebridge and she begged and cajoled him into taking her along. She promised she would find a way home afterward but it was too big of an opportunity to pass up. It was her first time to such a big city and she was full of excitement.
He allowed her to debut in some of his performances. But two nights into their stay on their way to the next inn, they came upon a robbery in progress. He tried to stop them and ended up being stabbed. In the dark of night and with nowhere to go for help, he bled to death in her arms while she screamed for help. Left in a strange city at 15 years, with no money and no friends Caille was totally lost. So she did the only thing she knew, tried to get business at inns to earn enough to get home but it was hard going. No one believed a 15 year old girl worth much and those that would hire her tended to want the lewder songs that she was so loath to sing. But the next night she met another benefactor. A kind graceful woman approached her, gave her something to eat and allowed her to stay in the same room. Little did Caillean know this woman was an Aes Sedai. That is until talk of the White Tower came up. It filled her with some amount of fear to find out that she could be taught to …channel. But it also filled her with curiosity. With nowhere else to go, and nearly everything she owned tucked away in the cloak worn by the only man who had been like a father to her, she left for the tower to begin a new chapter in her life.
